Report on Primary Campaign Finannces

The Brownsberger campaign for State Senate was funded almost entirely by local people.

Contribution summary (January 1 through December 25, 2011)

  • 698 contributors gave a total of $118,164 (net of $2700 in contributions returned).
  • 94% of the contributions came from individuals in communities in Will's district (current state rep district and/or hoped for Senate district).
  • The average contributor gave a total of $169.53 over the course of the year.
  • 88 contributors gave the maximum permitted for a calendar year -- $500.
  • 45% of the donations were made online at mywillbrownsberger.com.
  • None of the contributions came from political action committees. One $20 contribution came from a local candidate committee.
  • To our knowledge, no third-party "independent" expenditures were made to support our candidacy, except that a group of Fenway neighborhood leaders purchased an endorsement advertisement in the Fenway News.
  • To our knowledge, none of the contributions came from any lobbyists other than possibly a handful who are also constituents inside the small present state representative district. Note: Because of the increased potential for conflicts of interest in the larger senate district. our policy in 2012 will be to decline all lobbyist contributions even if they are from in the district.
